Evgeniy I. Kreydin, MD, is a urologist at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in female pelvic and reconstructive surgery.

Teaching is in his blood.
“Before venturing into medicine, I wanted to become a teacher. Teachers have one of the most important jobs in our society — they directly impact the next generation, and they play a critical role in shaping our communities.
Educating patients and trainees is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work at Keck Medicine of USC.”
The ocean breeze keeps him going.
“When I’m not working, you’ll often find me hiking in the Santa Monica mountains or on the ocean bike path. I love to read and often find myself picking up a new book on the patio. I also love to fire up the grill.”
He comes from a city of champions.
“Many people would be surprised to find out that I lived in Boston for about 20 years before moving to Los Angeles. In those 20 years, Boston won four Super Bowl championships, three World Series titles, an NBA championship and one Stanley Cup. I’m by no means a sports fanatic, but the incredible championship streak of the city has made me a lifelong Boston sports fan.”
A quiet retreat calms his soul.
“One of my favorite places in the world is Vieques, Puerto Rico. It’s one of the last remaining places in the Caribbean that is untouched by the tourism industry. It’s an amazing place to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy city life I’ve grown accustomed to.”
Seeing his patients’ quality of life improve brings him joy.
“A patient’s quality of life is directly impacted by my specialty within urology. I treat problems that aren’t life-threatening, but they can make a person’s life miserable, like urinary incontinence. It’s a remarkable responsibility and privilege to see a patient from an initial visit to evaluation and all the way through treatment. Nothing makes me happier professionally than seeing a patient regain self-confidence and self-esteem as a result of the treatment plan I set forth for them.”
Academic medicine gives him the ability to teach and innovate.
“I chose to work at an academic medical center because it gives me the privilege of working with doctors in training and passing on what I’ve learned in clinical practice to the next generation of doctors. Working at Keck Medicine also allows me to be at the forefront of medical practice through participating in research.”
His research involves bladder function after spinal cord injury.
“My research passion is normalizing urination in patients with neurological diseases, such as spinal cord injury and stroke. I’m currently involved in a study that uses spinal cord stimulation to recover bladder function after spinal cord injury.”
He deeply appreciates the Keck Medicine community.
