Thomas Bates, MBA, RN, serves as the inaugural chief quality officer for Keck Medicine of USC. In this role, Bates develops and oversees efforts to optimize quality and safety practices to help ensure Keck Medicine builds on its strong quality and safety foundation as the health system expands its footprint in Southern California and beyond.
Bates worked with leaders across the health system to establish the Keck Medicine of USC Quality Institute which is dedicated to ensuring excellence in the health system’s approach to quality, safety and clinical effectiveness.
Bates previously served as executive administrator for quality and outcomes management at Keck Medical Center of USC, which includes Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital. In that role, he helped lead many successful patient care initiatives. Prior to joining Keck Medicine, Bates served as chief nursing officer with Sherman Oaks Hospital/Grossman Burn Center.
Bates holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from California State University, Fresno and a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
