Personal protective equipment (PPE) helps protect health care workers, patients and others on the frontline response to COVID-19. PPE shortages pose a tremendous challenge to health care systems, and contingency plans are needed. This page contains step-by-step instructions for creating emergency PPE in the event that PPE supplies are not available.
These PPE and associated equipment designs and specifications are being provided as a free service to the community during this public health emergency. These designs, specifications and products have not been cleared for medical use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These designs, specifications and products have not been evaluated for the prevention of specific diseases or infections, the filtering of surgical smoke or plumes, the filtering of specific amounts of viruses or bacteria, including without limitation, COVID-19, or the killing or reduction of the amount of viruses, bacteria or fungi. Individuals or organizations that manufacture PPE and associated equipment utilizing these designs and specifications are responsible for any federal or state regulatory requirements that apply to the manufacture of PPE and associated equipment intended for medical use, and are responsible for informing health care providers to which the PPE and associated equipment are supplied that they are responsible for decisions regarding appropriate PPE for their personnel. Individuals and organizations are free to use, copy and share these designs and specifications, including for commercial manufacture, without payment of any fees or charges, but may not assert ownership in the designs and specifications, ownership of which belongs to the University of Southern California, Keck Medicine of USC and/or the individuals who created the design.

Donations can also be dropped off at the Keck Hospital of USC Loading Dock, located behind the building and accessible via Alcazar Street. We accept donations Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
